Oi!! 1,2,3,4.....

Just today I discovered hundreds of dusty old punk/post-punk singles buried in my garage and I have decided to resurrect them. Most of the artists are well known such as the Buzzcocks, the Ramones and The Clash to name a few, but there are also alot of mystery bands that I've never even heard of. I'll be posting both types of artists known and unknown, but today I will start with a mostly unknown band - The Moondogs

The Moondogs are an Irish band that formed in 1978. They consist of members Gerry McCandless, Austin Barrettt and Jackie Hamilton and have released a handful of singles and only one album "Thats What Friends Are For" since forming. Their sound was very much in the poppy Ramones sound not unlike the Undertones who would go on to far greater success.

Below I have posted their debut single "Ya Don't Do Ya" and also the flipside "She's Nineteen" both which were released in 1979. Both tracks are actually surprisingly good and are quite catchy think a mix of the Buzzcocks and the Ramones.

Sorry About any clicks or crackle, they are recorded off vinyl after all.

Please leave some feedback as I'd like to know what everyone thinks of the tracks.

Arctic Monkeys new album

I can tell you that I was worrying slightly about the new album. The recent trend of second album releases has not been good with the killers, bloc party, and the futureheads all underachieving. However the new single "brianstorm" has grown on me and after seeing a great performance of "flourescent adolescent" from the new album I am definitly excited. Bring on the 23rd!!

Arctic monkeys :Flourescent adolescent

Brianstorm also has some top notch b-sides definitly worth checking out.
Here the best in my opinion featuring Dizzee rascal no less!!
Mp3- Arctic monkeys :Temptation greets you like a naughty friend (Brianstorm b side)

Acid!!

Recently i've dug around for some of the old acid house anthems probably due to the whole "new rave" phenomenon thats about now thanks to the klaxons (who are great by the way). Heres a few rave classics though be warned they sound nothing like the so called "new rave" bands of now.

Mp3- A Guy Called Gerald :Voodoo Ray

Mp3- Royal House (Todd Terry) :Can You Party

These Singles are rare and hard to get a hold of but can be found on such compilations such as The hacienda classics and Discotheque Volume 1: The Hacienda. I recommend both to anyone with an interest in these artists. The hacienda classics album probably edges out in front though as it was mixed by Hooky from New Order (one of my favourite bands). Well worth checking out.

Sound Of Silver

Ahhh the new LCD soundsystem album. After the last one was released I went all DFA and tried to get everything they'd ever created including remixes and compilations. Now that I've had a bit of time to calm down I can review the album without my DFA tinted sunglasses.
However try as I might I can't find anything wrong with this album and it may be even better than the last one. It seems to flow alot better than it's predecessor staying in the same post-punk-funk-electronica most of the way through and rarely deviating. That may sound like a bad thing but trust me it's not. Murphy has created an updated version of the funky 4/4 beats that drove the talking heads on "remain in light" albeit an updated version that makes me want to dance like a fool.
I'll admit I didn't like it that much on first listen, apart from the rediculously catchy "someone great" and "all of my friends". But after 3 or 4 listens I was hooked.
Overall its a brilliant album and is worthy of a purchase.
